About this event

Join a guided historical walk from Blue Bell Hill to Wouldham and back on 29 November 2026, exploring the North Downs Way, the Medway valley and the villages of Wouldham and Burham. The route of approximately 12 km (7.45 miles) is circular and of moderate difficulty, taking around 4.5 hours including a lunch break. Along the way you will pass through forests and fields and stroll past historic houses and sites of Roman temples while hearing vivid local tales, including stories about people who were with Nelson when he died, a lost battle and a ghastly murder.

Meet at Bluebell Hill Park Site car park, Common Road, Rochester ME5 9RG at 09:15 for a 09:30 start. The walk leader is Ben Crozier and the route will take you up onto the North Downs, so expect a few undulating hills and one particularly steep climb. Car parking charges are not included. The meeting point is also given as what3words ///indulges.wobbling.upholds.

This event offers a blend of landscape, local history and countryside walking on established paths along the North Downs Way. Whether you are interested in Kent history or a day out on the Downs, this circular walk presents varied terrain and memorable stories across woodland, valley and village scenery.
