A National Dish of Hoo? Community Feast

Sat, 28 Mar 2026 12:00 PM - 14:00 PM

Overview

Join a free, drop-in community feast celebrating the unique flavours and stories of Hoo peninsula. A National Dish of Hoo? is a light-hearted celebration of local food, ecology and imagination brought to life by artist Cherry Truluck and the mobile pantry known as the Hoo Heddern. Over recent months the Heddern has gathered recipes, seeds, foraged herbs, market vegetables and memories from people across Hoo to shape the dishes for this communal meal.

Food will be served between 12:00 and 14:00 and you are welcome to drop in at any time during this window. There will be a generous buffet-style mix of dishes, with plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options and a long communal table for seating. Allergens will be signposted where possible, but if you have any allergies please ask a member of the team for guidance. Everything is prepared in kitchens that handle a variety of ingredients so cross-contamination cannot be fully ruled out.

This free feast brings together neighbours, growers, cooks and the Hoo-curious to share surplus produce from Thrift + Thrive stores alongside the peninsula’s seasoned traditions and salty edges. Expect recipes shaped by tidal rhythms, garden gluts, seaweed, family favourites and the mixed-up histories of this almost-island place. The event is commissioned by Cement Fields and supported by Medway Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Come and taste the connections between land, water, people and place and enjoy a welcoming community meal that celebrates Hoo’s distinctive character.
