A Way With Words 5 mile circular walk: Selling Village and Perry Woods

Sun, 22 Feb 2026 10:15 AM - 14:15 PM

Selling Rd, Faversham, ME13 9HW

Overview

Join a mindful scenic 5 mile circular walk through Selling Village and Perry Woods in the beautiful Kent Downs. This themed guided walk is the third of four that celebrate the landscape and the pilgrims who have walked the ancient chalky paths of the Downs. Along the way you will hear stories, share memories and learn about the local history and geology, including the exciting possibilities of becoming a UNESCO Geopark in 2026.

The walk starts at Selling Station and takes you through the picturesque village, home to a 12th century church and traditional Kentish cottages, across open farmland with wide views, and into ancient Perry Wood. Perry Wood is one of Kent's largest woodlands, where bluebells carpet the floor in spring and wildlife thrives among oak and hornbeam. You will also see unique sand mounds and heathland species, with fine views to the coast and surrounding countryside.

There will be a creative element of writing, story telling and poetry but silence and contemplation are equally welcome. The route includes hill climbs and steps and may be muddy when wet, so suitable footwear is advised. The walk begins at Selling Station where there is a small free car park and other free parking nearby. Dogs on leads and accompanied children under 18 are welcome. The series is funded by a FIPL grant in partnership with Kent Downs National Landscapes. For bookings and full details visit walkwild.net or contact the organiser.
