Adult Sunday Sailing at Medway Watersports offers regular sessions to practise and refine your sailing skills on the River Medway (tidal). These confidence-building, hands-on sessions are designed to get you on the water from day one, supported by friendly instructors who keep things safe, relaxed and encouraging.
Sessions suit beginners and improvers. If you are new to sailing you will usually start in the lively fleet of Toppers to master the basics, then progress to double-handed boats as your skills and enthusiasm grow. An instructor will always be close by to guide you and help you move forward at your own pace.
Who can join: ages 16 and over, able to launch and recover a boat independently and able to right a capsized boat without assistance. How the session runs: you will have two full hours on the water. Please arrive 30 minutes early to learn how to rig your own boat and allow 30 minutes afterwards to de-rig and pack away. When the weather is less favourable, learning continues with engaging land-based activities that deepen your understanding of sailing.
What to wear and bring: old clothes you do not mind getting wet, trainers or water shoes are required, flip-flops and Crocs are not allowed. Bring a towel and dry clothes for afterwards. Sessions take place at Strand Approach Road, Gillingham, Kent ME7 1TT and cost £18, making this a great way to learn to sail locally and build real on-water experience.
