Join the Computing: Year 5 Taster Session at Cornwallis Academy and give your child a lively first step into coding. This practical session uses the BBC Micro:bit to introduce key computing concepts in a fun, hands-on way. Pupils will learn basic programming skills and use block-based or simple text code to design and build their own reactive game, seeing immediate results on a real device.
The taster is designed specifically for Year 5 students, helping them develop problem solving, logical thinking and creativity while working through guided tasks. Activities are paced for young learners, with clear instructions and plenty of opportunity to test ideas, iterate and personalise projects. Bringing ideas to life with Micro:bit gives confidence and shows how computing links to games, gadgets and real-world technology.
This session is ideal for curious children who want to explore coding for the first time or build on early experience. It is a great way to find out whether computing clubs or further lessons are a good fit. Book a place to let a young learner discover how enjoyable and accessible coding can be at Cornwallis Academy.
