Medway St, Chatham, ME4 4HF
Join Electric Medway for a practical workshop on using digital tools to bring heritage interpretation to life and reach new audiences. This hands-on session at Sun Pier House covers how simple mobile technologies and immersive techniques can create memorable, accessible experiences for visitors and local communities. No prior technical experience is required.
Participants will be introduced to emerging technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality, alongside straightforward mobile approaches including QR codes, AR overlays and apps. The workshop also explores community-led digital archives, how to use social media for storytelling and volunteer recruitment, and ways to identify local partners to support your digital journey. The format blends demonstrations, case studies, practical exercises, presentations and time for discussion and Q and A, so you will return to your project with actionable ideas.
This session is ideal for community groups, heritage volunteers and professionals running small-scale heritage projects who want to understand what is achievable on a budget and what has worked elsewhere. It forms part of the Medway Heritage Place skills development programme, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and is one of a series of free workshops running through 2025 and 2026. If you have access requirements, please email heritageplace@medway.gov.uk for support.
