Join a three-hour Forage & Nibble workshop in Sittingbourne, Kent, led by an experienced forager and community herbalist. This hands-on session focuses on the four F's of foraging: fungi, fruit, flowers and foliage. Expect around 2 to 3 kilometres of walking on footpaths as you learn to identify medicinal and edible wild species, spot poisonous lookalikes and taste seasonal finds in a friendly, informal setting.
The workshop includes approximately 2.5 hours of guided foraging followed by a 30-minute oxymel-making session. You will use your finds to craft a jar of wild oxymel to take home. An oxymel is a traditional remedy made by soaking herbs in vinegar and topping up with honey to taste, which can be used as a medicinal cordial or taken as a shot. After the event you will receive a follow-up email listing everything found on the day to help with further research.
This event is suitable for absolute novices through to more experienced hobby foragers and is family friendly. Please bring a clean, empty jam jar (standard size). Note that toilets are not available at this venue and attendees are asked not to park at the football club; there is plenty of free on-street parking nearby. If you have dietary requirements, tell the organiser when booking as the workshop may use ingredients such as butter or bread.
Places are limited and a minimum number of guests is required for the workshop to run. The session is educational, not a basket-filling exercise, and covers safety, ethics, etiquette and sustainability while helping you reconnect with nature and discover new wild flavours.
