How to constitute your heritage group

Sat, 11 Jul 2026 08:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Medway St, Chatham, ME4 4HF

Overview

This free workshop in Medway is designed for anyone involved in heritage projects who wants to constitute a project, group or organisation and understand what comes next once registered. The session will help you choose the right legal structure for your aims, cover essential governance responsibilities and explain the practical steps required to become a properly constituted heritage organisation.

Delivered by Medway Voluntary Action, the practical workshop guides participants through the process of constituting and governing a group, exploring different structural options and what might work best for your goals. You will hear about local support available to help you set up and sustain your work, and the session combines practical exercises, presentations, Q&A and discussion to support learning and decision making.

The workshop is aimed at emerging groups, community organisers and anyone looking to formalise their heritage activity. It is part of the Medway Heritage Place programme, made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and forms one of a series of free skills development sessions running through 2025 and 2026. More workshops will be announced throughout the year.

If you have access requirements or questions, please email heritageplace@medway.gov.uk. Join this session to gain clarity on constituting your heritage group, learn who can support you locally and take practical next steps towards formalising your organisation.
