Join a one-day Introduction to Pattern Cutting workshop focusing on the Workwear or Chore Jacket. Held in the historic market town of Faversham on the North Kent coast, this practical course runs from 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm and is easily accessible from London by direct trains from Victoria and St Pancras. Suitable for complete beginners and those looking to develop existing skills, the day will guide you through the essential foundations of garment drafting while giving plenty of hands-on practice.
Under the guidance of Timothy OSullivan, Senior Lecturer in Pattern Cutting at Ravensbourne University, you will learn accurate measurement taking from the body and from reference garments, professional pattern drafting techniques for the body and sleeve, and how to add details such as button stands, collars and patch pockets. Bring along a favourite garment for inspiration if you wish. All tools and materials are provided for use during the workshop.
The Workwear Jacket has evolved from 19th century French labourwear into a contemporary wardrobe staple with a clean boxy silhouette and practical detailing. This focused workshop will give you transferable skills that can be applied to many sewing projects and will deepen your understanding of proportion, fit and construction. Timothy has worked across the industry and regularly delivers fashion-focused workshops, sharing techniques developed for catwalk and red carpet commissions. By the end of the day you will have drafted your own jacket pattern ready for further development.
