Join a relaxed, hands-on Gelli printing workshop in Rochester, Kent and discover how to get the best from your Gelli plate. Over a three-hour session at Studio 7, Nucleus Arts on Rochester High Street you will explore the joyful, unpredictable world of Gelli plate printmaking. This workshop is ideal for beginners and mixed-media artists who want to experiment with colour, texture and mark-making in a friendly studio setting.
The session begins with a short introduction to the history and mechanics of the Gelli plate before moving straight into practical play. You will make vibrant backgrounds and imprints using natural materials such as leaves, feathers, grasses and flowers, and then try textured objects like bubble wrap, buttons, hessian, shells and string to create interesting patterns. The workshop also covers stencil-making and use, the creation of a small collagraph plate to add depth and texture, and the sought-after image transfer technique to produce bold, graphic results.
All materials are provided and you will leave with a stack of your own prints and, time permitting, a simple concertina artist book to showcase your work. This is a supportive space to experiment, relax and build confidence with new techniques. Places are limited, refunds are not available but bookings can be transferred to a friend. Sign up to PRINT CLUB to save £15 on this workshop or contact the organiser if you are already a member.
