Mini Museum Explorers: Historic Helmets is a hands-on session at the Royal Engineers Museum for under 5s and their parents, grandparents, and carers. Each month the session uses play, simple stories, gallery trails, crafts and basic science activities to introduce little ones to museum objects and the people who used them. On this themed session children will go on a historic hat hunt through the galleries to discover military headwear and hear short, age-appropriate stories about soldiers and safety. There are opportunities to try on a selection of hats and helmets, helping children imagine what it felt like to wear them, and a creative activity where minis decorate and camouflage their own paper helmet using tissue paper and collage materials.
Sessions run on the second Tuesday of each month in term time from 10am to 11am and are designed to support development, communication and curiosity in a welcoming museum setting. Places are limited to 20 under 5s so please book in advance to avoid disappointment. The cost is a34 per session per child, with discounts for Snob loyalty card holders and free places for military families. Normal museum admission prices also apply. This friendly drop-in style session is ideal for families looking for a short, creative museum visit tailored to very young children.
