RYA OnBoard Junior Sailing

Join the RYA OnBoard Junior Sailing programme on the tidal River Medway at Medway Watersports in Gillingham. Open to young people aged 8 to 18, this grassroots programme gives participants the chance to learn to sail in a safe, structured and fun environment. Sessions use a fleet of Toppers for beginners with opportunities to progress into double handlers as skills develop.

Each session includes two hours on the water. Please arrive 30 minutes before the published start time so you can learn to rig your own boat, and allow a further 30 minutes at the end to de-rig and put boats away. Wear old clothes and suitable footwear such as trainers or water shoes; flip flops and crocs are not permitted. Bring a towel and a change of dry clothes to ensure comfort after being on the water.

The programme blends on-water sailing with land based activities when the weather requires it and helps young people build practical life skills including problem solving, leadership and teamwork. Sessions are run from Strand Approach Road, Gillingham, ME7 1TT and are priced at £15 per participant. Whether trying sailing for the first time or developing confidence and technique, this is a friendly way for junior sailors to gain experience and enjoy time on the River Medway.
