Simon Evans returns with Staring at the Sun, a sharp and affectionate new stand up show that squints at the oddities of modern life. With growing evidence that we may be living in a glitchy computer simulation, and the looming prospect of the AI Singularity, Evans combines big ideas with warm nostalgia, revisiting the analogue pleasures of hitch-hiking, pub bets and getting properly lost. Expect witty philosophy, observational humour and a fond look back at youth when an adjustable sandal could pass for cutting-edge tech.
Please note this performance has been relocated to the Abbey School following a fire at the rear of Gatefield Hall. Fortunately there were no injuries. The venue team will be, or may already have been, in touch with all current ticket holders. If you have any questions please contact bookings@thealex.org.uk or call 01795 591691. A map to the Abbey School is available from the organiser.
Evans blends thoughtful commentary on reality with absurd, everyday detail and a mischievous sense of storytelling. Reviewers have praised his work as 'A masterclass' ***** (The Scotsman), 'Outstanding' ****½ (Chortle.co.uk) and 'Dynamite' **** (The Times). NB any similarity of Doll in package to Patrick Stewart is coincidental. No refunds. Check with the venue before travelling for the latest information and access details.
