Store 104, 104 High St, Rochester, ME1 1JT
Step back into Rochester High Street and discover the story of Leonards Department Store in this immersive live performance. Performed in the original building, Store 104 on the High Street, Tales from the High Street brings the rise and fall of Leonards to life with drama, comedy and song. Audiences enter through the shop doors and are greeted by shop staff from different eras before joining Mr Leonard upstairs for the central performance.
The show runs on Friday 3rd April and Saturday 4th April at 7.30pm, with an accessible performance downstairs on Monday 6th April at 7.30pm. Members of Medway Play Lab CIC Improv Group help inhabit the shop floor and add lively, unscripted moments to the evening, creating a convivial and engaging theatre experience set within an authentic local landmark.
Tales from the High Street is part of Medway Play Lab CIC's Project Leonards and has been developed using extensive local research, including Memories Tea Parties to gather personal recollections. Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and with thanks to Medway Archives for photographic material, the production celebrates local history and preserves the memory of a once-famous retail institution. This is a chance to enjoy neighbourhood theatre that connects community stories with live performance in a unique, historic setting.
