Mon, 13 Jul 2026 18:00 PM - 19:00 PM

Abbey Pl, Faversham, ME13 7BQ

Overview

Join us at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School for a special talk marking 450 years of the Queen Elizabeth Charter. Dr Sheila Sweetinburgh, Special Associate Lecturer in Medieval and Early Modern Studies at the University of Kent, will guide an engaging exploration of the charter's origins and its long term influence on the school and the wider community. The talk will place the charter in its historical context and examine how this foundational document helped shape education, governance and civic life over the centuries.

The event is a seated presentation with a short question and answer session at the end, offering an opportunity to put your questions to an expert in the field. After the talk there will be a chance to view the original Queen Elizabeth Charter, a rare occasion to see this important document close to hand. Teas and coffees will be available for a small donation during the viewing period.

This event will appeal to local history enthusiasts, former pupils, parents and anyone with an interest in early modern England and the story of local institutions. Please note that viewing capacity is limited and all visitors must have exited the building by 20:30. Further event information and ticket details can be found on the organiser's event page. Come and discover the legacy of the Queen Elizabeth Charter 450 years on.
