The Chatham Grammar Experience - Textiles

Thu, 04 Jun 2026 15:00 PM - 16:00 PM

Rainham Rd, Chatham, ME5 7EH

Overview

Join The Chatham Grammar Experience for a hands-on textiles workshop that celebrates culture through Sugar Skull art and the traditions of Mexico's Day of the Dead. This creative session invites students to explore the symbolism and vibrant imagery of sugar skulls, learn how artists translate cultural meaning into design, and use those ideas to inspire their own textile pieces. Tutors guide participants through precision cutting, decorative design and both hand stitching and machine sewing, so every student develops practical skills while expressing individual creativity.

The workshop is ideal for young makers and school groups who want to build confidence with fabric techniques and learn to connect global traditions with contemporary textile design. Taking place at Chatham Grammar, the session balances technique with cultural understanding, helping students make meaningful links between art, identity and celebration. Materials and step-by-step support are provided, so attendees can leave with a finished piece and new skills to continue exploring textiles at home or in the classroom.
