Thurnham Castle and North Downs Walk (Heart of Kent Walking Festival)

Join a guided circular walk from White Horse Wood Country Park as part of the Heart of Kent Walking Festival on Sunday 22 March 2026. This guided Thurnham Castle and North Downs walk sets off from Maidstone and offers wide views, historic interest and countryside walking along the chalk escarpment.

Meet at White Horse Wood Car Park, ME14 3JE, at 09:15 for a 09:30 start. The walk lasts around 4 hours including a lunch break and covers approximately 11 km (6.5 miles). The route is circular and passes Thurnham Castle, following mixed terrain with some steep inclines on the North Downs, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.

Bring suitable footwear such as walking boots or sturdy shoes, a waterproof coat and trousers if you have them, drinking water and a packed lunch. Please carry any personal medication and tell the leader about medical conditions in confidence. Friendly dogs are welcome provided they are kept on a lead and remain the responsibility of their owner throughout the walk. Car parking charges are not included.

The cost for the walk is £7. The organiser may take photos for promotion and training; let the leader know on the day if you prefer not to be included. Cancellation policy: full payment is due for cancellations within 4 days of the activity, while cancellations made earlier receive a credit valid for 90 days.
