Medway St, Chatham, ME4 4HF
Join a free creative workshop in Chatham for people who stammer and explore your voice through music and storytelling. These sessions are designed to be welcoming and accessible, inviting participants to experiment with vocal exercises drawn from theatre, music and narrative practice. You do not need previous experience, just curiosity and a willingness to try new ways of using your voice.
Workshops last around four hours and take place at Sun Pier House, with participants working in a small group alongside professional musicians. The sessions are stammering friendly and supported by an experienced team, providing a safe environment to rehearse, reroute and reimagine language through dysfluency. Every workshop will be recorded and contributions will be woven into a new musical composition by composer and stammerer Jamie Hamilton.
This programme forms part of A Mouth In Search Of A Voice, a new music and multimedia project developed with the contemporary classical group Phaedra Ensemble. The finished work will be premiered in October 2026 with live performances at the Historic Dockyard Chatham and Arnolfini Bristol. Open to anyone aged 16 and over who stammers. Places are free but limited, so book early to secure a spot in this collaborative creative project supported by Cement Fields, Arnolfini, STAMMA and Arts Council England.
