Join Granite Gym for Wai Khru Ram Muay plus clinch training, a session that explores the rich ritual and practical techniques of Muay Thai. Wai Khru Ram Muay is the traditional pre-fight dance that honours the teacher. Khru comes from the Sanskrit word for teacher, Ram means dancing in classical Thai style and Muay means boxing. The ritual is a way for fighters to show respect and prepare mentally before stepping into the ring.
The session then moves into Muay Thai clinch work, focusing on upper body control, balance and close-range striking. The clinch is similar to Greco style grappling but includes the added elements of knee and elbow strikes and effective sweeps. Expect partner drills to develop posture, grips and movement, plus practical entries and escapes that translate directly to sparring and competition. This class is ideal for trainees who want to deepen their understanding of Muay Thai culture and improve their clinch game, whether you are training for fitness, self-defence or competition. Book to experience a blend of ritual, technique and conditioning led by experienced coaches at Granite Gym on 21 April 2026 at 6:00 pm.
