Join Granite Gym on 9 June 2026 at 6:00 pm for a focused session exploring Wai Khru Ram Muay and Muay Thai clinch. This class introduces the traditional pre-fight ritual and practical close-range techniques, blending cultural context with hands-on training.
The Wai Khru Ram Muay is a ceremonial dance saluting the teacher. Khru comes from the Sanskrit word for teacher, Ram refers to classical dancing and Muay means boxing. Together the term can be translated as a war dance saluting the teacher and is traditionally performed by fighters before a fight commences.
Muay Thai clinch work concentrates on upper-body control. It shares some similarities with Greco style grappling but includes the distinctive Muay Thai elements of elbow and knee strikes plus sweeps. The session will cover clinch holds, body positioning, control and basic entries for strikes and takedowns, helping practitioners improve balance, timing and close-range effectiveness.
This event is ideal for anyone interested in the technical and cultural side of Muay Thai, from those studying traditional rituals to fighters and martial arts students wanting to refine their clinch work. Attend to deepen your understanding of the Wai Khru Ram Muay and develop practical clinch skills in a gym environment.
