Join Kent Wildlife Trust at Oare Marshes for the Wilder Kent Experience: Cows in Conservation, a guided morning exploring the reserve and meeting the Trusts grazing cattle herd. Your Reserve Warden and a Wilder Grazing Ranger will introduce the site history and explain how conservation grazing supports wetland habitats. You will walk around the East Flood to listen for and look out for birdlife including warblers, marsh harriers and kestrel, then visit the West Flood to observe the breeding herd and their calves from a respectful distance.
This experience is ideal for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers who want to learn about grazing strategies and the role of cattle in habitat management. Walks involve around two hours of standing and walking across fields grazed by cattle, so please be prepared for uneven, muddy and slippery ground. There are no toilet or refreshment facilities on site, so bring snacks and water. The reserves team aim to run the event in most weather conditions but may cancel in extreme weather, in which case you will be offered an alternative date or a refund. Places are limited to keep group sizes small, so please give at least 30 days notice if you need to cancel. Check the Wilder Kent Experiences page for other Cows in Conservation dates at reserves across Kent.
