Working with Challenging Behaviour in Youth Work Settings

Mon, 01 Sep 2025 17:00 PM - 20:00 PM

Overview

Working with Challenging Behaviour in Youth Work Settings is a practical training session for anyone supporting young people in Medway. Part of the Introduction to Youth Work monthly series, this course focuses on understanding and responding to difficult behaviour, de-escalation techniques, and creating safe, inclusive spaces for young people to learn and grow.

Sessions run from 6pm to 9pm on the third Tuesday of each month at Parkwood Youth Centre. The programme forms the induction training for part-time staff and volunteers and is also available free to anyone volunteering or working with young people across Medway. The training is delivered by Medway Youth Service and is being advertised on their behalf by Young Medway.

This workshop is well suited to new youth workers, volunteer leaders, support staff and those seeking to refresh their skills dealing with challenging situations. You will gain practical approaches you can use straightaway, learn about positive behaviour management and reflect on ways to support young people while maintaining professional boundaries.

As a free, local offer, the session provides a supportive environment to develop confidence and competence in youth work practice. If you work or volunteer with young people in Medway and want to improve your ability to manage challenging behaviour constructively, this monthly session at Parkwood Youth Centre is a valuable opportunity to build your skills and network with other local practitioners.
