Writing from Life

Join author Maria C. McCarthy for a morning creative writing workshop designed to spark ideas and help you turn life experience into compelling writing. Whether you want to work on memoir, poetry, short fiction or material for a podcast, this session offers practical exercises and supportive feedback in a relaxed environment. Participants will use prompts and writing activities rooted in their own memories and observations, then explore techniques for developing voice, structure and narrative shape. Maria will share guidance on how to edit drafts, deepen scenes and make choices that strengthen tone and pace. The workshop is suitable for new writers and more experienced practitioners alike and is paced to encourage experimentation and confidence. It takes place at the French Hospital and includes time for discussion and one-to-one advice. Early bird places are available for the first three bookings, and there is an option to add a copy of Maria's book Learning to be Irish at a reduced price. Bring a notebook or laptop and a willingness to try new approaches to writing from life.
