The Fenn Bell Conservation Project is a small, conservation-focused zoo in Medway that combines rescue stories with opportunities for close animal encounters. As the area’s only fully licensed zoo, it showcases a range of unusual and exotic species and cares for many animals rescued from the pet trade or poor conditions.
Visitors can expect an intimate, family-friendly experience rather than a large commercial park. The collection ranges from a Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth to yellow-crowned Amazon parrots, and there are bookable, hands-on encounters that let you feed and interact with animals like foxes, meerkats and lemurs. These experiences are popular with families, school groups and anyone wanting a more personal connection with wildlife.
Supporting a visit helps sustain the zoo’s rescue and welfare work while offering educational opportunities about animal care and conservation. Staff are focused on animal wellbeing and on sharing the stories behind each rescue, so visits are both engaging and informative.
Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, with daily opening during half terms (check social media for updates). Because the site is compact and experiences can be limited in number, it’s a good idea to check availability and book any special encounters in advance. Highlights:
